Hi Fernando, to answer your question about what I mean by "port", a lot of the code was taken directly from the Steelhead, which runs on Linux, and "ported" to Windows. We needed to ensure that everything worked, and then added all of the pieces that couldn't be directly moved from Linux to Windows.

Unfortunately we don t have any sites with where satellite links are involved. I can tell you that I have some done some crazy testing using a cell phone as a tethered modem through USB and the results through that were quite impressive. First time through the transfer of 110 MB file took 45 minutes after the data was warm copying the same data through took 8 minutes.

Fernando, I don't believe Travis has satellite connectivity in his environment, but we have had a number of customers seeing outstanding performance with Steelhead Mobile in high latency, satellite connected environments.

Fernando, Steelhead Mobile contains the same software foundation that exists in Steelhead appliances. This is not a watered down version with limited performance and capabilities. RiOS stands for the Riverbed Optimization System and is the software that powers both the Steelhead appliances and Steelhead Mobile.

The performance results we have experienced have been tremendous! We had one user in the last week see a 91% reduction in WAN traffic which allowed them to feel as if their connection speed was 11.4 times faster than it really was.

Steelhead Mobile is allowing us to give our employees the opportunity to do what they wanted to do they can now work from home and feel like they are sitting in the office. Steelhead Mobile has also benefited us in other ways it has allowed us to setup a small 1-2 person office without the need to purchase any new equipment.
