If I understand you correctly and both router1 and router2 are both locally connected to your secondary switch, and only one Ethernet link goes through the Steelhead between your secondary switch and your primary switch. In that case if router1 goes down, the Steelhead will still be using its IP address as the in-path gateway. Unless you have HSRP re-directing that traffic to router2, then you can blackhole traffic.
A better approach would be to use multiple in-path interfaces. Connect one ethernet link from your primary switch through the Steelhead to router1. Connect another ethernet link from your primary switch through a different LAN-WAN interface pair to router2. Let the routers use OSPF to negotiate the preferred path (which would be router1). Each LAN-WAN interface has its own in-path gateway, so configure each gateway as appropriate to router1 and router2.

Hello,
My situation is the following one:
LAN-------SteelHead--------Router 1 (Router2)-------------WAN
Router 2 (with a different IP address) is chosen usually when Router 1 (Default Gateway) goes down. It is a balanced route of OSPF protocol with preferred route through Router 1.
Since my model is a SH 250 and this is a demo environment, I have made this configuration:
LAN-----Production Switch------SH_LAN_0 SH_WAN_0-------Secondary Switch--------Router 1 and Router 2--------------WAN
To avoid implementig static routes I have implemented simplified routing.
My question is:
With this configuration, is the Steelhead going to choose Router 2 as gateway for WAN, when Router 1 (Default Gateway) is not available?
Thank you
